Marvin S. Weiss Community Center | 1500 E. Euclid Ave. | Mt. Prospect, IL
RULES
Participants must be males, of at least 16 years of age - that's the only requirement.
All games are played using 2's & 3's, with 2 twelve minute halves.
MERCY-CAP RULE: If a team is winning by at least 15 points, there is a cap of 50 points before a mercy rule is called.
BEGINNING OF GAME: Winner of paper scissors rock will decide whether they want the ball or side (changes after halftime). Loser of PSR chooses whether to wear light or dark shirt. Then we will all gather together in a circle for short prayer.
BOUNDARIES: The boundary lines at Weiss Rec Center will consist of the gray lines on the sidelines, and the black lines under the basket.
TIME CLOCK: Continuous running clock except for the last one minute of the half. Clock will then stop for all whistled dead balls. (Clock can also stop during a timeout or an injury).
CHECKED BALL: The ball will be checked from the top of the key on all dead balls.
FOULS: There are shooting and non-shooting fouls. Shooting fouls will result in shooting 2 free throws. Non-shooting fouls will just check the ball on top of the key.
TEAM FOULS: On 5th team foul, you will go into bonus (1 and 1). On 10th team foul it becomes a double bonus and each foul is awarded with 2 free throws. Team fouls reset after each half, while personal fouls carry over.
PERSONAL: Each player gets 4 personal fouls. On the 5th foul, you will be fouled out.
TECHNICAL FOUL: Will results in one free throw and possession. Technical fouls will be called for the following reasons (but not limited to): unedifying trash talk, swearing, arguing with the ref, fighting (in any form), etc. Staff & referee's discretion will be used.
SUBSTITUTION RULE: The referee or staff will call an automatic timeout at the 6 minute mark of each half for a manditory subsitution, in an effort to guarantee playing time among all players. If a team reaches the 25 point mark before one of these times, then the subsituation will take place after the made basket.
TIMEOUT: Each team can also call for one 40 second timeout per half. Substitution can also be made at that time. But please be considerate and not abuse this rule to immediately substitute a player who has not played enough playing time. If a player requests to sub himself out for various reasons (fatigue, injury, etc.), he may request to do so during dead ball by indicating to the referee.
GENERAL BASKETBALL RULES: Travel, carry, charge, technical, etc., will be applied. It will be good to communicate this among players and refs before the game. There will be NO calls for backcourt violations (over and back) or 8 seconds to inbound the ball.
OVERTIME: If the score is tied after regulation, a 5 minute overtime will be played to determine the outcome. If after one overtime the score remains tied, a shootout will be used to determine the game. Each team will send 5 players and do a free throw shootout. If it is still tied, then it becomes sudden death (you may use only one of your players for this). If it continues to be tied after 2 sudden death shoot-outs, the shooters will move to the 3-point line. Winning team will get one extra point (i.e. 35-35 will be ended by 36-35).
